NOLAN IS TOO STUBBORN
Two Articles I want you to look at. I know the bullseye is on Hostler, but if Nolan is going to stand in the way of fire.... well then he's responsible for this mess also:
Asked Monday if that meant the 49ers would start featuring quicker passes and more three-step drops, coach Mike Nolan said it could. The question, then, is why the 49ers didn't make that adjustment during Sunday's loss.
The offense had success with three-step drops, but the vast majority of plays called for Dilfer to take five- and seven-step drops.
"We tried to get rid of it quicker and we held it a little longer," Nolan said. "That was one of the things that (offensive coordinator) Jim Hostler was talking about when we talked upstairs today. He was trying to do some things that would be more beneficial for Trent Dilfer."
------------------------------------------------------
See this why I have no confidence in Hostler. You're just figuring this out in GAME 4 with Dilfer? And you're "trying" to do some things? WTF? Is this not practiced? Apparently not. Furthermore - the OC's constant use of 5 -7 step drops in the face of a defense that's blitzing is still just dumb. I'm just glad I'm not the only one asking the questions out there.
And
The 49ers rank last in the league in passing offense and total offense, and Hostler has borne most of the criticism for the team's meager output. Nolan, however, reassured Hostler on Monday that his job is not in jeopardy.
"He's tried to open it up as much as he can," Nolan said. "But as you saw (Sunday), we open it up one time and we jump offsides."
Nolan also said there would be no immediate changes along the offensive line, but said he would consider substitutions if the problems persist. The most obvious mix-ups are occurring on the interior of the line, where top backups Adam Snyder, Tony Wragge and David Baas all have starting experience.

Note to Nolan and staff: DISCIPLINE is something that's taught or COACHED. Why is it that the offense gets a free pass, but when Winborn had problems with discipline or when Carter couldn't hack it enough as a 3-4 LB for this defense, you cut them immediately. Why the patience (obvious double-standard) with offensive players who in 4 games now have shown they have problems with discipline. PENALTIES show that players either aren't being coached properly or aren't practicing properly. 4 Games in a row now.
His answer for why we can't open up the offense to get blitzers to pay is "because they jump off-sides?" Come one - that's not a reason! You realize you'll continue to see blitzes until to fix the discipline issue? This comes down to two solutions - either you replace the players who constantly show they can't be COACHED or follow DISCIPLINE or you make them practice until they know the calls in their sleep and any conversation they have the only respond with OL blitz-pickup calls.
Here's another clue that there isn't enough offensive PRO coaching expertise on this team:
No lineup changes are planned along the offensive line, coach Mike Nolan said in his Monday news conference.
"We thought we'd handle it better than we did," Nolan said. "We need to play better up front. There's no other way it shakes down ... It doesn't please me. We expect more. If the offense is going to be good, you have to do a good job in the offensive line. We need to do a better job."

You thought you handled it better than you did? Hmm could that mean someone doesn't know how to evaluate when a problem is "fixed" during practices? OF COURSE NOT because it wouldn't have happened now 4 times in a row (not including the last few games of training camp).
Finally,
Nolan said he met with Hostler, a first-year NFL coordinator, to reassure him that he continued to have faith in him and to stay focused on his game-planning and play-calling responsibilities.
Hostler has been a frequent target of critics questioning his game-day strategy, but Nolan said he's convinced the problem remains execution on the field rather than the nature or sequence of the play calls.
"Jim faults himself every time we get in a meeting, but I shared with him that I think he's doing a hell of a job and he's working his tail off to get it right," Nolan said.
The 49ers have a lot to get right. They rank last in the league in total offense (213.3 yards), yards passing (118.0) and yards per play (3.
. They're also among three NFL teams with only one touchdown pass (Buffalo and New Orleans are the others).

When will somebody get the link between execution and what you do the other 5 days of the week. Clearly there is something wrong with the system... how they are installing plays and what's being installed. Furthermore there is a problem with what's being taught because there is mass confusion on Sundays. Even if Hostler has great game plans, if it's not communicated or coached effectively the plan is useless.
We need someone who is a teacher - someone who's very good at communicating and coaching, not just drawing up game plans. Someone who's had experience running a pro-style offense. I say bring in Fassel as a offensive assistant or Denny Green in the same role - someone, anyone who has pro coaching experience.
Zoners, there aren't going to be any line-up changes for now. The offense won't change for now. Nolan "believes in Hostler and what he's doing."
DONT EXPECT ANYTHING DIFFERENT IN THE BALTIMORE GAME.
We'll have to continue to lose before Nolan gets it.
