Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer, who has been nursing a sprained ankle since Aug. 14, will not play in Cincinnati's preseason finale against the Colts on Thursday but will play in the team's regular-season opener against Denver, a source said.

In the past 24 hours, Palmer has made his most significant strides, according to those in Cincinnati. He has taken legitimate snaps from center, avoided the rush and moved in a way that proves he is sufficiently recovered from his ankle sprain.

He will continue to do everything but play in Thursday night's game.

He took snaps with the starting offense on Tuesday for the first time since he got hurt.

"He looked remarkably improved," coach Marvin Lewis told reporters on Tuesday. "He looked pretty good. He was moving better."

When Palmer reported to the Bengals' training facility Wednesday morning, he told people it was the best he's felt.

Still, Cincinnati plans to hold him out Thursday night -- and absolutely play him against Denver.

Si ma Scott, Dorsey e Leonard si stanno scannando per gli altri 2 posti. Sinceramente ho visto poco, non saprei proprio dire chi verrà segato perchè ho letto molto bene di tutti.

secondo me tagliano dorsey, il titolare sarà benson con scott e leonard come riserve.

per il terzo posto a roster la competizione è tra leonard e Dorsey , io personalmente preferirei ad occhi chiusi Leonard perchè mi sembra uno tosto e per la sua versalità....mentre di Dorsey non mi convince la sua capacità di restare in salute.....
alla fine , da quello che ho letto, temo che decidano di tenere Dorsey.....ma spero di sbagliarmi

anche il FB Pressley sarebbe stato bello averlo nei 53 ma anche lì l'alternativa sarebbe stata rinunciare ad uno tra leonard e Dorsey....

A tribute to the career of former Bengal center Eric Ghiaciuc

Ghiaciuc getting ready to side-step--photo by GettyFormer Cincinnati Bengal starting center Eric Ghiaciuc finds himself again unemployed after the Kansas City Chiefs announced his release Friday, September 4.

Ghiaciuc, a fourth-round pick for the Bengals in 2005, started in 42 games for the Bengals prior to being released after the 2008 season.  He was subsequently signed by the Chiefs, then dumped to the curb just prior to the final roster-trimming deadline.

Here are some observations about Ghiaciuc's less-than-stellar career in Stripes:

-During his career as Cincinnati's center, he had to have all of his cleats re-soled constantly because the heels wore down abnormally quickly.

-Ghiaciuc's on-field performance caused famed Bengals' broadcaster Dave Lapham to once state, "To say Eric Ghiaciuc blocks the blitz like a blind six-year old would be to insult the blind six-year old."

-Ghiaciuc is one of the most nicknamed Bengal players in history by the fans, earning such monikers as 'Speedbump', 'El Matador', 'Mr. Ole.', 'The Invisible Man' and 'Twinkletoes Flintstone'.

-In 2008, Ghiaciuc was unanimously named the 'Most Valuable Bengal Offensive Lineman'--by vote of each of the team's 2008 opponents.

-When once asked to describe Eric Ghiaciuc's blitz blocking technique, Coach Marvin Lewis answered the question with a question: "Have you ever seen a weeble-wobble?"

-After the first pre-season game of 2008 during which Carson Palmer suffered a broken nose on a sack, Palmer stated, "What do you think is going to happen when a 280-pound defensive lineman AND your 300-pound center both fall on your face?"

-Ghiaciuc was placed on season-ending injured reserve towards the end of the 2007 season after colliding with a line judge--and severly twisting his ankle.

-Ghiaciuc was the 'Domino' in offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski's famed '42 Domino Rush Slant Six' from 2006 to 2008.

Actually, none of the above is true, as far as this writer knows.  We kid Eric Ghiaciuc because we love--to kid him.  He possibly was the worst center in team history and, having been cut by a team that is expected to finish about 3-13, is likely done in the NFL.

So long, El Matador.  It's been both a pleasure and a nightmare.
