A report over the weekend said the Oakland Raiders were interested in acquiring Vikings reserve quarterback Sage Rosenfels. I checked in Monday with Rosenfels to see what he knew about this report on nationalfootballpost.com.

BS Have you been hearing the rumors about being traded to Oakland?

SR I don't really care about what rumors say until anything would actually happen. Nobody has said anything to me about it. A couple of people called me (Sunday) and told me about it.

BS Would you welcome a trade and the chance to play more?

SR I do love it here in Minnesota. You want to be on a team with a chance to win it all. I haven't thought about going anywhere else. I've been working out at Winter Park for the last month. I was here all offseason. I'm solely focused on getting ready for the Vikings' offseason program that starts in a few weeks.

BS Some players prefer not to play for the Raiders. Do you care which team you're with, as long as you get to play?

SR You want to play for a team that has a chance to win a Super Bowl. That's the point. That's why I came here last year. This team is as talented as anyone in the NFL. Playing is great, but winning is even better. I love it here in Minnesota, and I hope to finish my career here.

BS Have the Vikings given you an indication of what they plan to do if Brett Favre doesn't return?

SR I haven't had one conversation with anybody in that building about what will happen.
BS Do you think he'll be back?

SR I have no idea.

BS Have you and Brett talked this offseason about his returning?

SR I've talked to him a few times. That never came up in the conversation. And I don't know if he knows. I have no idea.

BS If Favre told the Vikings this week that he's retiring, do you think they'd try to trade for Donovan McNabb?

SR I'm not going to go into all the possibilities. All I can control is my performance. That's why I've been here all offseason.

BS When the Vikings acquired you, I thought it was to be their starter. Is that what you thought, too?

SR Well, I thought I'd compete for the starting job and would have a chance to win it. I thought I played solid football all through training camp and the first preseason game. When the greatest starting quarterback of all time decided to play here, there wasn't much I could do about that. I tried to help Brett all I could and help coach (Brad) Childress all I could. Obviously, I want to play. I'd quit if I didn't want that.

BS You handled the situation about as well as anyone could. (He was made the third-team quarterback behind Favre and Tarvaris Jackson.) You're not the type to make waves, are you?

SR It doesn't fit my personality, and I'm not the only guy on the team. I always like to think I put team ahead of individual.

BS Do you think your destiny still is to be an NFL starter, and a starter here in Minnesota?

SR Well, that's my goal. I don't think your goal ever is to be a backup. I learned a ton from Brett and got a feel for how this team works and how this team wins.
