The Vikings have been quiet on the matter, but owner Zygi Wilf didn’t dampen the thought that the team is interested by saying ownership was “all-in” this season. It’s known that the Vikings “immediately balked” at the asking price by Jackson last month.

The possibility of the Minnesota Vikings trading for Pro Bowl wide receiver Vincent Jackson became more intriguing today after the NFL and the players' union agreed that the San Diego Chargers holdout can play after sitting out four games if traded by Wednesday.

Because of a bye week, the Vikings' fifth game would be Oct. 17 against the Dallas Cowboys at the Metrodome.

Before today's agreement, an arbitration hearing had been scheduled to determine whether Jackson would have to sit out six games rather than the three mandated by the NFL for a second DUI guilty plea.

The hearing was to determine whether he would have to sit out three more games because, as a restricted free agent this year, he declined to sign a contract tender, allowing the Chargers put him on a roster exempt list for three games.

The NFL players' union contended Jackson shouldn't have to miss an additional three games if he were traded.

Today's agreement makes Jackson easier to trade, and his career in San Diego appears finished. With Sidney Rice expected to miss at least half the season after hip surgery, the Vikings have been in need of an impact wideout.

The issue for the Chargers seems to be whether to trade Jackson now or after the season.

Trading for Jackson would be difficult for the Vikings because they probably would have to give up a couple of high-round draft picks, then would have to pay him.

Jackson, 27, reportedly wants a $50 million, five-year contract (which his Advertisement agent has denied), but might take a one-year deal with the Vikings with an understanding of an extension later.
Dealing for Jackson could depend on how desperate Vikings owner Zygi Wilf is for a star to catch passes from Brett Favre. Even if Rice returns, it's uncertain whether he will be as effective as last season.
