Atlanta Journal-Constitution (registration required): "Falcons defensive end Patrick Kerney plans to void the remaining two years of his contract — he's owed $13.8 million — next week, making him an unrestricted free agent, according to his co-representative, Rich Rosa. Beginning today, Kerney has a week to opt out of his deal, which he is expected to do, although he probably won't rush."
Penso proprio che se Kerney va via da Atlanta finirà in Colorado dove c'è il suo vecchio allenatore dui linea se non sbaglio eh
It will be a surprise to many in the league if the Denver Broncos don't make a concerted run at Atlanta Falcons' defensive end Patrick Kerney. The Falcons had opened talks on a contract extension for the high-motor Kerney in early December. Kerney had said publicly his position coach in Atlanta, Bill Johnson, is at least one reason he would have re-signed with the Falcons. Since then, however, Johnson has accepted a job as defensive line coach with the Broncos.
New Orleans Times-Picayune (registration required): "Defensive end Charles Grant expressed his frustration Tuesday after the Saints designated him as their franchise player. The move requires the Saints to offer Grant a one-year contract worth $8.644 million the average of the top five players at his position. But it prevents the 28-year-old from becoming an unrestricted free agent March 2. Grant can negotiate with other teams, but it is unlikely another team will offer a long-term deal."
Come non detto su Grant:Grant incazzato perchè messo come franchise player dai Saints, non credo lo terranno scontento, sento aria di partenza
The most intriguing scenario involves backup quarterback Matt Schaub, a restricted free agent who figures to draw interest from other teams. The Falcons do not want to lose Schaub and plan to place a one-year contract tender on him, possibly in excess of $2 million, as well as a compensation attachment of a first and/or third-round draft pick. The high ransom could discourage some teams, however, a straight trade for a draft pick or a player should not be ruled out. As much as the club wants to keep Schaub, it doesn't want to lose him for nothing after the 2007 season when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
