interessante considerazione su Demulling...su quanto troppo è stato valutato dai Lions...sui troppi soldi che gli hanno dato rispetto al suo vero valore che nell'attacco dei Colts sembra molto di più di quello che è stato ai Lions...cioè come un attacco forte fa sembrare migliore un giocatore normalissimo!

Success in the NFL, especially during the salary cap era, is all about evaluating players and paying them salaries commensurate with their skills. If you undervalue a player, you lose him to a team that will pay him what he's worth. If you overvalue a player, your salary cap situation quickly escalates out of control.

The Colts valued DeMulling properly -- he's a competent offensive lineman, but nothing more. He was worth the seventh-round pick the Colts spent on him in 2001 and became a starter on an offense where the quarterback and the wide receivers are so good that all they need is competence from the offensive line.

But Lions president Matt Millen saw that DeMulling was a starter on the great Colts offense and assumed that must mean he's a great player. So when DeMulling became a free agent two years ago, Millen signed him to a contract that paid him a sizable bonus and a base salary of $3 million a year, making him the highest-paid lineman on the team. Once he got to Detroit, it became clear that DeMulling can't function in an offense without a great quarterback making everyone else's job easy. He couldn't even crack the Lions' starting lineup, and Detroit decided after two years that it was done with him.

Yesterday DeMulling re-signed with the Colts. Financial details aren't yet available, but you can bet DeMulling isn't making nearly as much with the Colts as he made with the Lions. The Colts know what he's worth, and that's all they're willing to pay him.

"We made an offer prior to free agency and the agent chose not to respond to it. We're presuming he'll play the season with the tag. There is still time to get a deal done, the deadline is July 15, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens." Freeney was assigned the franchise tag, which would pay him more than $9.4 million on a one-year deal should he sign.
