The Bears will have decisions of their own to make concerning cutting players.

It has been speculated cornerback Nathan Vasher could be let go, but the team has minimal financial motivation to cut Vasher now — he would receive a $500,000 bonus for participating in the offseason plan.

If he makes the team, they could renegotiate his contract to cut his $2.95 million salary before the start of the regular season.

The Bears owe Devin Hester a $5 million bonus March 5, but all indications are they intend to retain him.

The production of defensive tackle Tommie Harris has dipped and he is owed a $2.5 million bonus in June, and also can earn a $500,000 workout bonus. As of now, it looks solid the team will pay up.

Lance Briggs and Brian Urlacher also are due bonuses in June of $3.3 million and $1.3 million, respectively, but the team does not appear to have any thoughts about not paying the linebackers or renegotiating.

The Bear most likely to be released is offensive tackle Orlando Pace. But if the 34-year-old decides to retire, as he probably will, cutting him won't be necessary.

Sources tell the Chicago Tribune's Around Town celebrity column that Deion Branch "wants to sign with the Bears."
Branch was seen in Chicago on Friday night. Tom Curran of Comcast Sports in New England, however, passes along a report that Seahawks GM John Schneider has no plans to cut Branch, which is a big surprise considering the 30-year-old receiver's obvious on-field decline and $5.47M salary. Branch is apparently considered a good fit for new OC Jeremy Bates' scheme.

The Bears would not be interested in bringing back Thomas Jones if he's released by the Jets, according to beat writer Brad Biggs.

Jones wouldn't want to accept a backup's salary, and his skills are a poor match for Mike Martz's offense. Biggs believes Brian Westbrook, though, is "ideal" for the role of Matt Forte's backup, ostensibly because of his Marshall Faulk-like skill-set.

Manumaleuna played for OC Mike Martz when they were both with the Rams, and he is considered to be the best blocking tight end on the market. It raises questions about Greg Olsen's future in the offense, as Martz prefers a blocking-first tight end. Don't expect much offense from Olsen in 2010.
