Vikings receiver Percy Harvin was "livid" when the team cut receiver Randy Moss. And with all evidence pointing to coach Brad Childress as being the guy who wanted Moss gone, it looks like the relationship between Harvin and Childress has been significantly damaged.
Judd Zulgad and Chip Scoggins of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune report that player and coach got into a "heated argument" at practice on Friday. Per the report, Childress questioned Harvin's effort in practice.
Harvin sprained an ankle in Sunday's loss to the Patriots. Since then, he hadn't practiced until Friday. In his first session back, he was limping and limited.
Apparently, Chilly smelled a rat, essentially accusing Harvin of embellishing his injury.
"He's a tough guy," Childress said after practice. "Let's face it, he injured that foot on his first catch of the game and still was very productive. I would just say he's tough."
In other words, Childress thinks Harvin is a lot tougher than what he showed on Friday, and with Childress' job likely on the line against the Cardinals, Childress wants Harvin on the field.
ESPN's Ed Werder reports that Vikings owner Zygi Wilf very nearly fired coach Brad Childress after Childress decided on his own to waive Randy Moss earlier this week.
Childress didn't even run it by the owner before making the announcement in a Monday morning team meeting. Wilf was reportedly "furious about being circumvented," and considered firing Childress and keeping Moss. Hence, the transaction being delayed until Tuesday. Wilf's team probably would've been better off with Childress gone, Leslie Frazier as head coach, and Randy Moss attracting double coverage down the sideline for the remainder of the season. Wilf ultimately decided that he'd rather avoid paying Childress' $10 million-plus buyout for firing him. Money matters.
