Top trade candidates for Jay Cutler
Here is what I cam up with, feel free to add any teams I may have missed.
1. Buffalo Bills - With Orton retiring they are now down to EJ Manuel who was terrible except for when he is faced our defense. The Bills have a top level defense (#4 overall), a decent running game and some nice weapons in the passing game. Poor QB play kept them out of the playoffs. Considering there are no viable options in free agency, they might be interested in Cutler.
2. St. Louis Rams - Very talented defense was able to keep them in most games this year, but a bad offense with poor QB play led them to a 6-10 record. Their defense is good enough where a better QB could put them in playoff contention. With no options in free agency, if they don't want to bring back Bradford coming off another injury they could be interested.
3. Houston Texans - They went 9-7 with 4 different guys playing QB. Finished the year with the #5 run attack compared to the #24 passing game. They might feel their run heavy offense would be perfect for Cutler to not have to try and do too much. Ryan Fitzpatrick played OK in his time, but he is a 32 year old journeyman who is still out another 2 months with a leg injury.
4. Cleveland Browns - Playoff hopes were destroyed by horrible QB play. Hoyer was really bad down the stretch, and Manziel looked terrible. This seems like a perfect fit, but I don't know that they want to give up on 2014 1st round pick Johnny Manziel after only 1 year. Maybe his terrible play plus more off field issues to end the year might make them consider it?
5. New York Jets - Another team with a good defense (#6 overall) but terrible QB play all year. There were games where they were forced to run the ball 70% of the time because Geno Smith was so bad. They might feel adding a veteran QB could put them in playoff contention when paired with their pretty good defense.
6. Tennessee Titans - Cutler's home town team. They have been linked to him a lot but they have a horrible defense and aren't really close to being a contender. Not sure why they would want to pay Cutler 15 million a year to take them from a 2 win team to a 6 win team. They have absolutely nothing at QB though so still a possibility.
7. Washington Redskins - Not a very good team overall. Defense sucks but skill position players are ok. Their QBs were pretty bad. They benched RG3 but might not be ready to move on yet. Cutler would be a slight upgrade, but they don't have much talent around him to succeed. Would be a similar situation to the Bears.
