Coach Payton sulla prossima a Miami:

"We’re talking about a team that just won their division a year ago and is playing now in the last few weeks. This is a real good football team. This is a team that has changed and gotten their program going in the right direction and has gotten the right leadership and all the things we’re talking about here internally. This is a team that has done that and in a quick period of time turned things around. They’re extremely well coached. Of course I know a number of people there. I’ve worked with Tony Sparano; he and I worked together for three years in Dallas and I have a great deal of respect for what he and his staff and their players are doing. They had a big win last weekend and this will be a tremendous test for us.
They’ll be well prepared. They have done a great job there in a short amount of time – really in a year-and-half to where they’re at now.”

Bravo coach, stai imparando....volare bassissimi... :idolo:

Articolo di Casserly della CBS:

Citazione
Every Saturday at our production meeting for the NFL Today, we vote on the top 10 teams in the league. This week I would expect us to have our first unanimous vote in a couple of weeks and pick the Saints as the No. 1 team after their impressive win over our previous top team, the New York Giants.

The Saints have played two of the best teams in the NFL, Philadelphia (without Donavan McNabb) and the Giants (with some injuries in the secondary) and won impressively both times. New Orleans is a well-coached team on both sides of the ball and has two excellent leaders in quarterback Drew Brees and linebacker Jonathan Vilma.
While at Saints training camp this summer, I saw Brees leading a discussion with a group of players after practice. He told me later that at the end of training camp each year, he gathers the team leaders and has a meeting to discuss any issues they may have. Some teams call this a "leadership council." This meeting was all Brees' idea and it is one example of his leadership ability. He continues having these meetings periodically throughout the season. This is his initiative, not something Sean Payton asked him to do.

Both Vilma and Brees were acquired from other teams when they had questionable medical backgrounds and "futures." Give general manager Mickey Loomis and the Saints' medical staff credit for making the right call on both of those players. Medical staffs do not get much mention in the press, but they are critical to a team's success. I am sure there are teams that would not have taken a chance on one or both of these players.

When I visited the Saints, what impressed me about their defense was the confidence and swagger they had. This comes from defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who is a very confident coach. He is very demanding in his style and has been effective in Tennessee and Washington. He has a reputation as an aggressive, blitzing coach, but he can play conservative and match his style to the defense that's needed to win a particular game. The Redskins beat the Saints when Gregg Williams was in Washington by playing a conservative style of defense, when that style was best suited to win the game.

This is the first time Williams has been on a team with an explosive offense like the Saints. What this means is he will play with the lead more and thus can be aggressive -- possibly even more than he has been in the past.
One thing Payton is good at is looking at each opponent and understanding that he may have to change his formula to win from week to week. In some games the offense will have to score a lot. Other games may have to be a time-of-possession, low-scoring type of a matchup. Williams understands this, too, and can adapt as needed. Not all coordinators are willing to do that.
Other than Williams, the biggest addition to the Saints defense has been free safety Darren Sharper. In all honesty, I do not know how much the Saints thought Sharper had left. They were looking for a leader in the secondary who was smart and instinctive, and that is what they got -- and more. Sharper, who turns 34 on Nov. 3, plays exceptionally deep at 18-22 yards. This allows him to play a true center field. He does a great job of reading a quarterback's eyes. He does gamble at times, but this year he has come up with a number of big plays, including two interception returns for touchdowns.

The Saints also added cornerback Jabari Greer, who has excellent speed. Tracy Porter is healthy this year and also has very good speed. Neither of these players are elite corners, but this is the best group of corners Payton has had since he has been with the Saints.

On the defensive line, the Saints got a break when Charles Grant and Will Smith were not suspended. Both players were asked to lose weight to improve their speed, which would help them improve their ability to get to the QB. Smith dropped his weight from 296 to 270 and Grant went from 304 to 280.

On offense, the prevailing thinking is the Saints' passing game is what you have to stop first. But you can't dismiss the running attack. They are committed to being good at running the ball. They comes from Payton. The offensive line has two good run-blocking guards: Jahri Evans, who is currently their best offensive lineman and is Pro Bowl-caliber, and Carl Nicks, who had high-round ability but slipped in the draft. The Saints also will run the ball from all of their personnel groups, which makes them harder to defend.

The Saints do not have a true No. 1 wide receiver, but their receivers all have their strengths. Marques Colston runs good routes and has good hands. Devery Henderson has deep speed to keep the defense honest. Jeremy Shockey is a man on a mission to prove he can still play. What I saw when I visited the Saints was that Brees and Shockey developed a good chemistry. This gives Brees a reliable underneath target with size. Reggie Bush gives the Saints a threat out of the backfield who can run after the catch.

But the key to their passing attack is Drew Brees. He makes everyone of his receivers better, because he is such a good decision maker and is accurate with the ball. What the receivers have to do is be in the right spot and Brees will get them the ball.

The Saints have a formula that works for them. It is a long season, but New Orleans is for real.
