A Savage piace Russell, a Crennel piace Quinn.

Citazione
The Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills have expressed interest in Michael Turner, maybe even contemplating the huge hit of a first-and-third round pick for LT's understudy. That might not be a bad move for the Packers. The club is obviously playing on borrowed time with Brett Favre at quarterback. So they should go for the quick-fix and take a flier on Turner. The NFC North is going to be open this year as the Bears will suffer from the Super Bowl runners-up fate, while the Vikings and Lions will be the Vikings and the Lions. This might be the thing to not only push the Packers over the top this year, but maybe buy and extra year or two out of Brett Favre. Why not go for it?

Citazione
It's common for fans to rush to judgment and declare a player a bust way too early. But after three seasons of seeing the draft class of 2004 on the NFL gridiron, enough time has passed that such a judgment is reasonable.
Here are the 10 worst first-round picks from 2004. Overall selection in parentheses:

1. Robert Gallery, T, Raiders (second). The Raiders can't figure out where to play him and he has done little to help their dysfunctional offensive line.

2. Reggie Williams, WR, Jaguars (ninth). He had a career-high 52 catches and four touchdowns last season, but Williams more often has had trouble catching passes and making any sort of discernable impact on the game.

3. Rashaun Woods, WR, 49ers (31st). Out of the league after just seven catches, he was a wasted pick and the 49ers still are trying to find wide receivers.

4. Ahmad Carroll, CB, Packers (25th). The 5-10 cornerback was plagued by illegal contact penalties, is trying to salvage his career with the Jaguars and might drag down this year's undersized Razorbacks cornerback, Chris Houston.

5. Jason Babin, DE, Texans (27th). Houston drafted Babin to be a pass-rushing outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense but after switching to a 4-3, he is without an ideal position and his production has dropped.

6. Michael Jenkins, WR, Falcons (29th). Despite somehow scoring seven times last year, Jenkins averaged only 27.3 receiving yards a game and has not been the answer to Atlanta's receiving problems.

7. Chris Perry, RB, Bengals (26th). The Bengals continue to hold out hope that Perry can be a good change-of-pace back behind Rudi Johnson, but Perry has played only 22 games in three seasons because of injuries.

8. Kenechi Udeze, DE, Vikings (20th). After a promising rookie season, Udeze's second year was ruined by a knee injury and he struggled through last season with zero sacks, prompting the Vikings to consider adding another pass rusher this year.

9. Michael Clayton, WR, Bucs (15th). You wouldn't expect Clayton here after a 1,193-yard rookie season, but he has just 65 catches, 728 and one TD in two years since.

10. Kellen Winslow, TE, Browns (sixth). You can't argue with Winslow's ability when healthy, but he played only two games in his first two seasons and is coming off another serious knee surgery.

Citazione
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans are getting serious in their search for more help at running back and they started Monday by visiting with restricted free agent Michael Turner of San Diego.
Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt was not available for comment. But San Diego general manager A.J. Smith had said several teams had inquired about Turner as the NFL meetings wrapped up last week.

Agent Bus Cook said he hadn't had much time to talk with Turner, who was checking out of a Nashville hotel Monday afternoon. But he said Turner enjoyed his visit with the Titans.

"We've just got to wait and see," Cook said. "The Titans have got to talk to San Diego. Even if they want to offer him, they have to know what he's going to want and what it's going to take to get him and have to work the other side of this, and that's the Chargers."

The Titans released Travis Henry last month, and he quickly signed a new deal with the Denver Broncos. Henry rushed for 1,211 yards last season, a big reason why Tennessee ranked fifth in the NFL in rushing with Vince Young.

Henry's departure has left Tennessee with LenDale White and fullback Ahmard Hall, both rookies last year, on the roster with Quinton Ganther and Dontrell Moore. White, a second-round draft pick in 2006, had 61 carries for 244 yards.

Turner is a restricted free agent who the Chargers tendered high enough that any interested team would have to sign the running back to an offer sheet and pay up with a first- and third-round draft pick to San Diego.

Or they could try and lower that cost in a sign-and-trade with San Diego, which Smith said he is open to before the draft April 28-29.

Running backs have done well this offseason. Frank Gore got a four-year extension from San Francisco that included more than $14 million in guaranteed money, and Willis McGahee picked up a contract with a maximum value of $40.12 million after being traded to Baltimore earlier this year.

Both running backs have had serious knee injuries in their past.

Turner has been healthy and averaged 6.3 yards a carry last season as backup to LaDanian Tomlinson and finished with 80 carries for 502 yards.

Turner is scheduled to make $2.35 million in 2007, and Cook said the Chargers have incentive to make a move if they choose.

"If they can get a nice draft pick for him right now, next year they get nothing for him," Cook said.

The Titans entered free agency with lots of room under the salary cap, and they still have plenty of space left.

Their biggest moves included signing cornerback Nick Harper away from Indianapolis. They also lured restricted free agent linebacker Ryan Fowler away from Dallas, safety Bryan Scott and receiver Justin Gage.

The Titans also have Corey Dillon scheduled to visit Wednesday.

Citazione
The NFL has a sense of the dramatic when it comes to the Chiefs’ preseason schedule. Or maybe it’s just coincidence. Either way, their first two opponents are teams that are the strongest candidates to trade for quarterback Trent Green. The Chiefs begin their preseason Aug. 11 against the Browns in Cleveland. They then play against Miami on Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. at Arrowhead Stadium. Chances are one of those games will pit the Chiefs against Green, their starting quarterback the last six seasons. The Chiefs are trying to trade Green, and Cleveland and Miami are the two most likely landing spots. The Chiefs and Dolphins have gone as far as to exchange trade offers. Chiefs president/general manager Carl Peterson discussed a trade with his Cleveland counterpart, Phil Savage, at last week’s NFL meetings in Phoenix.

The David Carr Tour kicked off Monday night, when the former Houston Texans quarterback arrived in Carolina for a visit with the Panthers. Carr will spend today meeting with Panthers officials before flying straight out to Seattle to meet with the Seahawks. Carolina would seem to be a better opportunity for Carr, as it does not have a clear-cut No. 2 quarterback and its starter, Jake Delhomme, struggled at the end of last season. But Seattle has Mike Holmgren, whom Carr feels a bond with, and he could take the next year or two to help rebuild his confidence, which took its lumps in Houston
