Citazione
http://LAS VEGAS (March 19, 2007) -- Miami Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter was accused of punching Cincinnati Bengals offensive lineman Levi Jones after police said the players exchanged trash talk at a casino blackjack table.

Porter was issued a summons on a misdemeanor battery charge after the March 18 altercation that began inside the Palms hotel-casino, Las Vegas police Officer Martin Wright said.

"They went outside. In the valet area, one struck the other, causing a small laceration above the eye," Wright said, calling the injury minor.

Porter could face up to a year in jail and up to a $1,000 fine, Wright said, but no court date was immediately available.

Porter, 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds, left the Pittsburgh Steelers after eight years and signed a five-year, $32 million deal with the Dolphins earlier this month. Jones, 6-5 and 307 pounds, missed much of last season with a knee injury.

"It seems they go against each other on the field, and here they take it into the public," Wright said.

Wright cited an initial report from a Las Vegas police lieutenant who said the two players had a history of on-field trash talking with each other. The Steelers and Bengals both are in the AFC North, and play each other twice each season.

Dolphins coach Cam Cameron said Porter, a three-time Pro Bowl pick, told him about the incident on March 19.

"We will monitor the situation and refrain from making any further comment until we gather more information," Cameron said in a statement issued by the Dolphins.

Wright said a written police investigation and report won't be complete until at least the end of the week.

The Bengals didn't have much to say about the latest incident involving one of their players. Over a nine-month period, nine Bengals have been arrested.

"We have determined that he did not sustain any serious injuries," team spokesman Jack Brennan said of Jones. "Other than that, it's just not something that warrants any comment."

Citazione
The Dolphins' negotiating stance in their efforts to acquire Kansas City quarterback Trent Green might have improved dramatically Wednesday because the team now will have a choice of at least one more veteran quarterback it can acquire.

David Carr.

The Dolphins and Green's representative Jim Steiner have talked about a contract for Green while the team and the Chiefs have discussed trade compensation. The teams apparently have all but agreed on the compensation, but Miami and Green are not close. Green wants the opportunity to be paid like a starter if he wins Miami's starting job. The Dolphins apparently are more interested in a veteran minimum contract.

That is holding up the trade, and with Carr now a possibility, it's likely the Dolphins will get a choice of veteran quarterbacks on the trade market. Carr is being shopped by Houston after it acquired quarterback Matt Schaub from Atlanta on Wednesday.

Miami's interest in Carr is not certain, but with him available, the Dolphins could use that as leverage against Green and the Chiefs. The Texans are asking a first-day draft pick (a second- or third-round pick). The Chiefs had been hoping for similar compensation for Green, although it is believed that price was lowered.

Citazione
The Miami Dolphins reportedly are close to trading a seventh-round draft pick to the Kansas City Chiefs for veteran quarterback Trent Green.

The Palm Beach Post reported that the final obstacle to the trade being completed is Green agreeing to a new contract that would lower his salary next season from $7.2 million to something close to the minimum.
