Si vede che hanno deciso di anticipare i tempi, magari i primi allenamenti hanno dato indicazioni. Harris è un buon acquisto, ha esperienza e proviene da un buon sistema difensivo, Williams l'ho visto giocare così poco che non saprei fare un paragone tra i due.

Avranno capito che oltre a Minter ( che fa l'ultima stagione ) e forse Nate Salley, non c'è nessuno che possa essere proposto come titolare. Probabilmente abbiamo una squadra di Safeties special teamer, o neanche...

Williams più che una Safety, da quanto ho potuto constatare la scorsa stagione, è un Linebacker mancato. Quando non cicca il tackle riesce ad andare anche per il Big Hit, ma in copertura fa cacare...
E la velocità non è esattamente il massimo..

Ouch, questa me l'ero persa. Comunque, se dovesse giocare come la scorsa stagione, non sarebbe affatto un male secondo me se si ritirasse prematuramente ( nonostante mi dispiaccia per lui ). In ogni caso, spero lo tengano intorno alla dirigenza, perchè un giocatore ed una persona fedele e impegnata nella comunità come lui è sempre utilissimo...

Carolina Panthers rookie Jon Beason ended his eight-day holdout when he signed a five-year contract that includes more than $6 million in guaranteed money.

Dopo aver saltato 8 giorni di TC ( 12 sessioni ), finalmente si decide a presentarsi. Fortunatamente sono arrivati ad un accordo, poichè pare che Terrence Melton, LB, al Fan Fest abbia subito un brutto infortunio al ginocchio ( ho letto che potrebbe trattarsi del MCL ). A lui, anche un altro LB si è aggiunto, Adam Seward, che dovrebbe essersi fatto male ad un dito. Fortuna che abbiamo caricato la squadra di LBs proprio perchè l'anno scorso eravamo rimasti senza...  ( un po' come i Bucs con i QBs per intenderci  ).

-- Carolina Panthers safety Mike Minter, slowed by chronic pain in his knees, has decided to retire after 10 seasons in the NFL, a person familiar with the decision said Monday.

The person, speaking on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because an official announcement will be made Tuesday, said Minter made the decision over the weekend. He did not practice with the team Monday morning.

Minter, who had already announced that the 2007 campaign would be his last, acknowledged last Friday afternoon that he might retire before the start of the season. The all-time franchise leader in terms of starts (141) and consecutive starts (94), Minter is having knee problems and has missed several practices in training camp.

"Can I still do it at a level that's acceptable to me?" said Minter, who has been limited to just one practice session per day. "I have to go through camp to find that out. We'll just have to see how the knees [respond]. I don't know yet."

Minter, 33, said he has discussed with general manager Marty Hurney and coach John Fox the possibility of retiring before the season begins. He revealed his deliberations, which were seen here as a bit of a bombshell, in an impromptu discussion of the addition of Chris Harris to the secondary.

Last Thursday, the Panthers sent a fifth-round choice in the 2008 draft to Chicago in exchange for Harris, who arrived here early Friday morning, passed his physical exam and began to learn the Carolina defensive playbook. Harris worked sparingly in the morning practice, and spent most of the session receiving instructions from secondary coach Tim Lewis.

The loss of Minter would have an impact for Carolina on and off the field. Minter is viewed as a team leader, a solid guy in the locker room, and is widely respected. He had taken a pay cut to try to play one more year with the team that drafted him in the second round in 1997.

But injuries have begun to take a toll, Minter admitted, noting that he has undergone three knee surgeries and that he beat the odds by playing 10 seasons in the league.

"If I was to show you the [medical reports] from when I came in here as a rookie, you would be shocked that I was able to do it this long," said Minter, who noted that a staph infection in his second season nearly ended his career. "I was bone-on-bone even back then. I went through a lot to keep playing."

For his career, Minter has 953 tackles, 10 sacks, 17 interceptions, four interception returns for touchdowns, 81 passes defensed, 16 forced fumbles and 10 recoveries. The former University of Nebraska star is the leading tackler in franchise history. He has registered 100 or more tackles in four seasons.

Avrei dovuto immaginarlo quando è stato reso ufficiale il trade per Harris. Come ho già detto mi dispiace per lui, ha lasciato un'impronta indelebile nella storia della squadra, non c'è dubbio.

Continuo comunque ad esser dell'idea che sia meglio così. E' sempre meglio avere nella memoria le grandi azioni di un grande giocatore piuttosto che vedere un grande giocatore venire bruciato su ogni play perchè non c'è la fa più.

Imbarazzante... posso dire solo questo della partita ( se così la si può definire ) di ieri sera. Per evitare di vedere ulteriori oscenità, a 4 minuti dalla fine del terzo quarto ho spento... Come hanno detto altrove, son quelle partite che mettono a dura prova il tifoso

Carr è stato senza dubbio il miglior qb dei Panthers visto in campo contro gli Eagles.
