  PITTSBURGH - The Steelers signed free agent linebacker Marcello Church, the team announced today. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

   Church (6-1, 230), who attended Florida State, suffered a season-ending injury his senior season (2005) and did not participate in an NFL camp last year.

   At Florida State, Church finished with a career-high 26 tackles in both his junior and senior seasons. He saw action in 12 games as a senior, ranking third on the team in sacks with 4.5. Church blocked two punts in his career with the Seminoles.

Il baffo quando si incazzava faceva paura, doveva essere veramente poco gustoso in certi frangenti, Tomlin mi pare piu umano in certe cose, piu vicino ai giocatori anche, ma il DNA da vincente non dovrebbe difettare in entrambi!

Qualche aggiornamento da Pittsburgh...intanto, anche gli Steelers avranno delle compensatory picks in virtu dei FA persi l'anno scorso, ed esattamente una al quarto e una al quinto giro, e cio è cosa buona e giusta, non sono scelte alte ma sono pur sempre possibilita di pescare qualche steal!! Per la diatriba 3-4 o 4-3, beh almeno per il 2007 le ultime voci darebbero gli Steelers fissi sulla tradizionale 3-4, senza nemmeno tentare esperimenti, poi, dal 2008, chissa che accadrà...certo che non vedo gli Steelers senza la loro 3-4, è un po come dire Ficarra senza Picone, Olio senza Stalio, Bud Spencer senza Terence Hill...

There's not a whole lot of Steelers news today, but John Harris does put the pieces together to spotlight the Steelers' interest in Florida State outside linebacker Lawrence Timmons.

As Harris points out, the Steelers were the only team whose head coach was at FSU's pro day to watch Timmons work out. Timmons will come to visit the Steelers before the draft, and the Steelers seemed to pay special attention to Timmons at the combine.

It all makes sense. The Steelers are in need of a youth movement at outside linebacker, and Timmons is one of the few linebackers on the board who fits as an outside linebacker in the 3-4 (there are a number of college defensive ends who fit the bill as well, but they'll have to get comfortable playing linebacker).

There's talk in league circles of a possible trade between the Cardinals and the Steelers for tackle Max Starks.  The rumor is that, if the deal would go down, the Steelers and the Cardinals would flip-flop first-round picks.

The Cardinals hold the No. 5 overall pick, and the Steelers draft at No. 15.

But, as far as we can tell, the talk hasn't originated in Pittsburgh.  Instead, the thinking is that the Cardinals are floating this one in an effort to bring in a former Pittsburgh pupil of offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt and offensive line coach Russ Grimm.

It makes sense.  The offensive line is the only weakness on the Cardinals' offense.  And it is a glaring one. 

Starks has played right tackle and left tackle for the Steelers.  He currently is a restricted free agent, with a first-round tender offer.  The Cardinals or any other team could sign him to an offer sheet, and if the Steelers choose not to match it the Steelers would be entitled to a first-round draft pick as compensation.
