Loss of NT Williams ‘major blow’ to ChargersThe loss of NT Jamal Williams for the season– he was placed on injured reserve Saturday with a torn triceps—leaves the Chargers with a gaping hole in the middle of their 3-4 scheme. Williams (6-3, 348) is a three-time Pro Bowl player and has been one of the league’s top run-stuffers this decade.Williams had been listed as questionable for today’s game against Baltimore, so the decision to put him I.R. was a surprise. The Chargers’ Super Bowl aspirations took a significant hit with the announcement. The Chargers signed DE Andre Coleman off the practice squad to fill Williams’ roster spot.“It’s a major blow,” G.M. A.J. Smith told The San Diego Union-Tribune. “Any time you lose a great player, it hurts. It makes our road more difficult, for sure, but not impossible.”The team will likely start Ogemdi Nwagbuo (6-4, 303), an undrafted free agent who spent time on the Chargers’ practice squad last year, in Williams’ place. Look for the Chargers to use more 4-3 fronts and other looks. The Chargers will be missing two other starters—RB LaDainian Tomlinson (ankle) and C Nick Hardwick (ankle)—against Baltimore.

“Well the thing I’ve learned this week, and as we’ve all known for a very long time, if it’s on the internet, it’s true" (Jim Harbaugh)
